Memorial Day Weekend Family Fun May 27-30

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
-Romans 12:12

San Diego Daddies of Preschoolers thanks all of the men and women, past and present, that have served our country and defended our freedom.

In honor of Memorial Day, I wanted to share with you another military treasure that we have here in San Diego. It's FREE and you've probably passed it many times.

Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation and Aviation Museum (Open Tues-Sun 9am-330pm; FREE ADMISSION)

This one-of-a-kind Aviation Museum was developed by a dedicated curatorial staff, with the help of many volunteers. What sets this museum apart from all others is the fact that it is the only museum in the World dedicated to preserving the incredible contributions made by Marine Corps Aviators and their ground support personnel.
The museum is comprised of an outdoor area, displaying an average of at least twenty five vintage aircraft and an indoor display of memorabilia and artifacts dating to the earliest days of Marine Corps Aviation. Many items are one of a kind and range from fine art portraits to military clothing and weapons used during specific campaigns. The museum holds the only exhibit in the United States devoted to the history of the Woman Marine, including original uniforms, history timeline and memorabilia. The museum also displays the permanent trophies and the current year recipients of twenty five individual and unit awards, selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps for excellence in their occupational specialty.

This weekend is also the kickoff for the Open Cockpit Days at Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum in Miramar. Here's your chance to climb aboard historic aircraft including the T-34 Mentor, F-5 Tiger II, F-18 Hornet and CH-46 Sea Knight.

San Diego Family Fun Weekend Guide May 20-22

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." - 3 John 4

Discovering San Diego - There isn't a whole lot going on around this weekend in San Diego, and rumor has it that those rain clouds might make another stop. So I thought I would share with you some other San Diego gems that can be enjoy almost anytime.

The National City Train Depot: SDERA operates the historic National City Depot as a museum that is open Thursday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 for adults only. The donation is suggested, but not required. This lovely Santa Fe station (California Southern Railway when it was first constructed) was the first terminus of transcontinental rail travel in the San Diego area.  It is the oldest railroad-related structure still standing in San Diego County, and it is in its original location. A large model-railroad exhibit, operated by the 3-Rail model railroad group, is also included in the museum displays. Not to mention the amazing collection of old San Diego trolleys. All train buffs, local historians, and people looking for an interesting "day out" in the San Diego area are encouraged to visit the depot. www.sdera.org

The San Diego Firehouse Museum: The San Diego Firehouse Museum is open Thursday - Sunday and is located in the Little Italy section of downtown San Diego.  Inside the museum, visitors will see firefighting memorabilia dating back 100 years.  Everything from fire buckets to early firefighting apparatus is on display.  Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children/seniors.  There is a gift shop with firefighting apparel for sale. www.sandiegofirehousemuseum.com

FRIDAY 5.20.2011

Friday is National Bike to Work Day. If you are able to, bike to school with the kids. School is their work, so why not. If need to, have mom follow a few minutes later with the car, so that you can bring all the bikes back. Or if you can, lock the bikes up and meet the kids after school for an afternoon ride home. And if your off on Friday, simply take the kids out for a bike ride anyways.
Friday Night Movie in the Park (South Bay Recreation Center) Begins at Dusk -  Going out to the movies can get a bit expensive. Especially with all the up-charges for IMAX and 3D. But this Friday you and the kids can catch a great movie absolutely FREE. Bring your blanket, pillow and chairs to the Robert Egger Sr. South Bay Recreation Center at 1885 Coronado Ave, and enjoy the hilarious voice talent of Steve Carell in DESPICABLE ME!
And if you have some older kids...there's some new Disney Pirate movie that comes out. lol! But I wouldn't suggest it for the little ones.

San Diego council is planning on cutting all funding for this event due to the cities continued shortfall with our budget.

Seaworld Viva La Musica Stage El Gran Combo - Few salsa groups have made it untouched through almost half a century, staying above fluctuations in the music industry.
